Why Night Swims Made My Life Better (Unexpectedly)
As-Salaam Alaykum,
It’s been a while I know. But I have short story for you.
Last week I went on a lil trip with my family.
We stayed at a pretty cool villa, and it had a swimming pool. Alhamdulillah.
I took a photo so I can show it to you guys.

Keep this photo in mind for the rest of the story
So I started this bizarre habit.
I promised myself that every night after dinner, I would swim for cardio.
There was just one bottleneck…
The water was freezing at night.
And the wind made it even worse.
But I wanted to challenge myself and build discipline,
so I decided to go through with it.
The hardest part wasn’t the swimming.
It was convincing myself to get into the freezing cold water.
My brain resisted so much.
I’d stand at the edge of the pool while the cold wind hit my body,
thinking:
“If it’s this cold out here, imagine how cold it is in there…”
Maybe you’re wondering:
“What does this story have to do with anything?”
It’s about procrastination.
We avoid doing hard but beneficial tasks because of hidden fears.
For you, the pool might be:
starting that business
working on that assignment
going to the gym
memorizing that surah you keep delaying
You stand at the edge, knowing you need to do it…
but you resist.
Back to my story:
I ended up jumping in anyway.
I swam laps back and forth until I finished the workout.
Then I'd go inside, take a hot shower, and feel amazing.
Not because of the cold water.
But because I set a challenge for myself… and actually did it.
Alhamdulillah.
And here’s the part you need to hear:
Discipline grows the moment you do what your nafs resists.
So just Say Bismillah and jump into the pool
