Why you constantly feel overwhelmed for no reason

Salaam Alaykum,

There are days where everything seems okay on the outside.

Work is manageable.
Family is fine.
No huge tragedy or crisis.

But inside?

You feel scattered.
Foggy.
Overwhelmed — with no clear reason why.

You’re tired of this feeling.
But you don’t know how to fix it.

I recently found something that I believe will help you

And it wasn’t in a time management book or productivity hack.
It was in the life of the Salaf — and one powerful hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.

The world is fast. Your soul is not.

Let’s be honest:
Social media is changing how our hearts work.

You see hundreds of people in one day.
Watch dozens of clips.
Absorb news from 5 continents, 6 wars and 12 celebrity breakups.

You’re more “connected” than ever…

But your soul has never felt more scattered.

The Salaf lived in a different world.
But they faced the same test — just without the Wi-Fi.

And their response was radically simple.

The Hadith That Should Be Taped To Your Phone

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“From the perfection of a person’s Islam is to leave that which does not concern him.”
(Tirmidhi)

Imam Nawawi رحمه الله explained this hadith in powerful detail.
He said:
“What does not concern you” includes:

  • Anything that is not part of your obligations

  • Anything that doesn’t benefit your soul

  • Anything that distracts you from your mission

Let that sink in.

Imagine if everything you watched, followed, or reacted to had to pass that 3-part filter.

What would your feed look like?

And yes I know that we see beautiful Islamic reminders on social media

but there’s still a good chunk of useless content we see on a daily.

we keep burdening our souls with things that weren’t even meant to be on our shoulders in the first place.

That’s why we suddenly feel a sense of overwhelm.

A Quick Self-Test

Here’s a little spiritual diagnostic tool:

Pull out your phone.
Open Instagram or Threads.
Scroll 50 posts.

Now count:

  • How many of them had nothing to do with your responsibilities?

  • How many had no real benefit to your Akhirah?

  • How many were simply distractions, gossip, drama, or envy bait?

Chances are… it’s most of them.

And that’s the root of your inner chaos.

Your heart wasn’t meant to carry all this noise.
You're drowning in information that was never meant for you.

So What’s the Way Out?

The advice of the Prophet ﷺ is not metaphorical. It’s literal.

Leave what doesn’t concern you.

Here’s what that might look like:

  • Unfollow the noise: Anyone who makes you envy, compare, or argue — mute or unfollow.

  • fix your feed: Follow people who remind you of Allah, your goals, and your values.

  • Use this rule daily: Ask, “Does this concern me? Will this benefit me?” If not, skip.

You don’t need to know everything.
You just need to know what you are responsible for.

Because your heart wasn’t made for infinite tabs.

It was made to remember Allah.
